Establishing a Sense of our Vertical Axis

In this day of yoga we will work towards establishing an easy uprightness. To this end we will explore upright and inverted postures, including tadasana, headstand and sitting practices. We will move into twists and sidebends, flexion and extension with the same perspective as, in all these, we are moving in relation to our midline. We will also ask ourselves how our experiences and culture influence our ideas around posture and being upright.
A central principle – that yoga practice nurtures us when we pay attention to what we feel – will run through the day. This allows us to prioritise ease of movement and comfort even when practice requires some effort.
Quiet periods of sitting, breathing and relaxation will be included to allow us to absorb and integrate what we practice.
